Ensuring that our social media profiles are up-to-date is something good communications and marketing professionals stick to.
However sometimes our own profiles may not appear be “flying” with just regular informative content being posted. This does not mean we are not working; far from it, this usually shows that the focus is on keeping the account ticking over and up-to-date, whilst working diligently on our clients / customers behalves.
So whilst a lot of marketing professionals accounts may well have copious amounts of content / likes (or cute cats / random dances / gym pics etc); Does that translate to a lot of actual business customers?
Now there’s a thought!
So for our friends in the social media / small business world – lets have a quick freshen up & get back to basics.
Start by visiting all of the social media profiles you have signed up for.
This can be a real eye-opener!
You want to get an idea of what you signed up for historically and you want to see how they look now (remember Klout / Vine etc etc). Do you still have random profiles out there?
Read and edit all of the content on every platform you have to make sure that you’re pleased with it.
To make this a less painful process, start with the platforms you use most often.
Begin by updating images / headers / bios etc..
Google yourself.
This can be really heavy going but very worthwhile – spend some time and go deep.
Search google (plus images, videos) and YouTube etc
If you can’t find yourself, try including other things people may know about you when searching, like your business names etc.
All this should be done for you personally and/or the brand that you work under.
Once this is all done – you should have a healthy, up to date online presence from which to base your business social media / online life from.
